My name is Gary Key, I am a freelance translator and Associate Member of the Chartered Institute of Linguists (www.iol.org.uk), the UK’s professional body for translators. I provide a reliable proofreading and translation service in the following language combination:

Chinese to English

I prefer to work from Simplified Chinese, but will also consider working from Traditional Chinese.

I already have 6 years’ experience of full-time translation from Italian to English and French to English, and of part-time translation from Chinese to English. Since October 2011 I have specialised full-time in Chinese>English proofreading and translation, and am in the process of develop my skills and experience in this language combination.

I am an Associate Member of the Chartered Institute of Linguists.

Language Expertise and Work Experience

I have a BA degree in French and Italian and 5 years’ experience living and working in China. While in China, I studied for six months at Xi'an Jiaotong University, I taught English for four years and I translated Chinese part-time for 6 months.

Before I became a translator I spent 5 years teaching English as a Foreign Language, and was awarded the Trinity Diploma EFL qualification in September 2005.

Daily throughput

Translation: 800 characters, Proofreading: 3000 characters

I am available for proofreading and small translation jobs (max. 800 characters/day), while I continue to develop my skills and experience in this language combination.
