My name is Gary Key, I am a freelance translator and Associate Member of the Chartered Institute of Linguists (www.iol.org.uk), the UK’s professional body for translators. I provide a reliable translation service in the following language combinations:

Chinese to English*
Italian to English

*I prefer to work from Simplified Chinese, but will also consider working from Traditional Chinese, depending on the subject matter.

I have nearly 7 years’ experience of full-time translation experience (from Italian/French/Chinese to English). In October 2011 I decided to specialize in Chinese>English and Italian>English translation, therefore I no longer offer French>English translation services.

I have been an Associate Member of the Chartered Institute of Linguists since 2006.

Language Expertise and Work Experience

I hold a BA degree in French and Italian with specialisation in translation and interpreting, and benefit from 5 years’ experience living and working in China. While in China, I studied for six months at Xi'an Jiaotong University, I taught English for four years and I translated Chinese part-time for 6 months.

Before I became a translator I spent 5 years teaching English as a Foreign Language, and was awarded the Trinity Diploma EFL qualification in September 2005.

Daily throughput

Translation: 2000 characters/words, Proofreading: 4000 words.

Annual output

Around 500,000 words/characters per year, 3 million words/characters translated in last 6½ yrs.
